Das hängt von den verschiedenen Stränden ab. Die maximale Zeit beträgt eine Stunde und wenn die Südküste “in Betrieb” ist, sind 5 Minuten Fußweg ausreichend.

Eine Woche Surfen mit täglichem Unterricht wird sicherlich eine groß Entwicklung hervorbringen.

Dennoch können Faktoren, die nicht mit dir und dem Coach zusammenhängen, wie z.B. die natürlichen Bedingungen, beeinflussen wie deine Surffähigkeiten entwickeln können.

Im Gegensatz zu Fußball, Basketball oder anderen Sportarten, bei denen sich das Spielfeld kaum oder gar nicht verändert, gibt es beim Surfen nie zwei gleiche Tage, unser Trainingsgelände ist nie genau das gleiche wie am Tag zuvor.

Was deine Fortschritte beim Surfen verlangsamen kann, ist allerdings auch das, was das Surfen zu einem ganz besonderen Sport macht und manche Tage, an denen alle Variablen stimmen, zu unvergesslichen Erlebnissen werden lässt!

In einer Woche mit vernünftigen Wellenbedingungen wird eine fitte Person, die das erste Mal surft in sicherlich aufstehen, bereits gebrochene und ungebrochene Wellen nehmen, die Welle “im Grünen” abschneiden, entlang der Wellenwand gleiten und Geschwindigkeit augnehmen können.

Future Eco Surf School ist stolz darauf, ein Team von ortansässigen und erfahrenen Coaches zu haben, die fließend verschiedene Sprachen wie Portugiesisch, Englisch, Französisch, Deutsch, Niederländisch und Spanisch sprechen.

Da sie von der Algarve stammen oder schon lange hier leben, kennen sie sich mit der Kultur und Natur der Gegend aus, sodass sie jeden Tag einfach den optimalen Surfspot finden.

Motivation, sich im Meer wohl zu fühlen und körperliche Vorbereitung wird beim Lernprozess sicher sehr helfen. Die Kursteilnehmenden sollten schwimmen können und wir würden es begrüßen, wenn du uns über eventuelle gesundheitliche Einschränkungen informierst.

Nicht surfende Begleitpersonen können einen surfende Kund:innen begleiten, sofern sie für eine Mitfahrgelegenheit bezahlen, die ihnen einen Platz im Surf-Van garantiert. Danach, hat die Begleitperson an dem Strand, an dem der Unterricht stattfindet, den ganzen Tag zur freien Verfügung.

Das Durchschnittsalter unserer Schüler:innen liegt wahrscheinlich zwischen 25 und 35 Jahren. Dieser Durchschnitt ergbit sich aus zwei Zielgruppen, die regelmäßig bei uns Surfunterricht in Anspruch nehmen: Junge Menschen im Alter von 6 bis 18 Jahren und Erwachsene und junge Familien im Alter von 30 bis 50 Jahren.

Wir haben täglich Surfunterricht außer am ersten Weihnachtsfeiertag und am Neujahrstag, sodass unsere Schüler:innen auch jeden Tag Unterricht haben können.

Es hängt von der Jahreszeit ab, die einen großen Einfluss darauf hat, wo die Erfahrung stattfinden wird. Das bedeutet z.B., dass im Sommer eine Surfstunde von 3 Stunden ein Erlebnis von insgesamt ca. 6 Stunden ist. Diese Zeit beinhaltet die Hin- und Rückfahrt zum geeigneten Surfstrand an der Westküste, die Surfstunde selbst und die gesamte Zeit, die mit der Logistik der Vorbereitung der Surfausrüstung verbunden ist.

Für den Transport unseren Schüler:innen haben wir Surf-Vans, die einen täglich zu den ausgewählten Surfspots bringen (Hin- und Rückfahrt). Wenn die Unterkunft in der Nähe unsere Schule liegt oder wenn ein „Surf-Paket“ gebucht wird, kann man von der Unterkunft abgeholt werden. Für weiter entfernte Orte können wir einen Transport anbieten, für den wir abhängig von der Entfernung jedoch eine geringe Gebühr erheben.

Die Surfspots für unsere Klassen werden so ausgewählt, dass sie an jedem Tag die besten Bedingungen zum Surfen bieten. Dies hängt von Wind, Gezeiten, Größe und Richtung des Wellengangs (engl. Swell), Sandbänken und dem technischem Niveau der Schüler:innen ab. Unser Unterricht findet an der dazu überall an der Süd- und Westküste der Algarve statt. Wir gehen häufiger zu 10 Hauptstränden (8 davon liegen im wilden und geschützten Gebiet des Naturpark Südwest-Alentejo und der Vicentinische Küste, wo Surfschulen eine spezielle Lizenz benötigen, um unterrichten zu können). Ab und zu schauen wir uns verschiedene Surfspots an, die nur von erfahrenen Surfer:innen genutzt werden.

Ja, in jedem Klassenpreis ist das gesamte Material bereits enthalten: die Leash, das Brett und der Neoprenanzug.

Wir befinden uns in der Marina von Portimão, am Praia da Rocha in Portimão. Uns kann man mit dem Auto, Zug, Bus, Taxi, Uber oder noch besser zu Fuß oder mit dem Fahrrad erreichen und so den CO2-Fußabdruck verringern. Wenn du Future Eco Surf School bei Google Maps eingibst, wirst Du problemlos zu unserer Surfschule geleitet.

Die Kurse richten sich an zwei bestimmte Zielgruppen, je nach Erfahrungslevel:

• Einstiegslevel: Für Leute, die noch nie einen Surfunterricht oder nur kurze Surferfahrung hatten
• Mittelstufe (Verbesserung): Für fortgeschrittene Surfer:innen, die bereits über Grundkenntnisse des Surfens verfügen und ihre Fähigkeiten im Rauspaddeln verbessern wollen, Wellen selbst auswählen und die grundlegenden Manöver wie Trimmen, Cut-back, Bottom Turn, Floater weiterentwickeln möchten.

Mit unserer Erfahrung von mehr als 25 Jahren können wir sagen, dass etwa 80% der Leute, die in die Surfkurse kommen auf dem Einstiegslevel sind, während die restlichen 20% in der Mittelstufe sind.

Nicht als Unterrichtspaket, aber als monatliche Pakete mit regelmäßigen Stunden, haben wir auch fortgeschrittenen Unterricht für Vor-Wettbewerb und Wettbewerbsstufe.

Als Einsteiger:in wirst du auf unserer Surfgebiet von etwa 50 Meter Länge surfen – viel Platz für eine tolle Zeit!

Falls du bereits fortgeschritten bist, ist es empfehlenswert, die touristische Saison von Juni bis Oktober (vor allem Juli und August) zu meiden, da es dann sehr voll ist, vor allem mit Menschen die sich erstmalig im Surfen probieren! In anderen Zeiträumen  wirst du viel mehr Möglichkeiten für Wellen an beiden Küsten und viel weniger Surfer im Wasser haben.

In jedem Fall, wenn Du bereit bist, früh aufzustehen oder in die Dunkelheit hinein zu surfen wirst immer noch viele Möglichkeiten haben, glücklich zu sein (nur mit ein paar anderen Surfer:innen in der Nähe).

Man kann das ganze Jahr über einen 3/2 mm Surfanzug tragen. Im August und September kann man einige Tage sogar mit einem Kurzarm-Surfanzug oder sogar in Shorts surfen. In der Zeit von Dezember bis März benötigt man möglicherweise einen 4/3 mm Surfanzug und sogar Stiefel, besonders wenn man nicht so kältebeständig ist.

Ja! Wenn Du deine Buchung mehr als einen Monat vor der ersten Surfstunde stornieren möchtest, nachdem die Zahlung bereits (teilweise oder vollständig) erfolgt ist, erstatten wir 90% des bereits gezahlten Betrags. Liegt die Stornierung zwischen drei und einer Woche vor der ersten Surfstunde, erstatten wir 50% des bereits gezahlten Betrags. Wird die Stornierung weniger als eine Woche vor der ersten Surfstunde angefragt, können wir leider keinen Betrag zurückerstatten.

Da wir sowieso nass von den Wellen sind, macht es keinen Unterschied! Oft kommen die besten Wellen mit dem Regen! Zum Surfen kann Regen perfekt sein, denn alles was zählt sind der Wellengang, der Wind und die Gezeiten! Der einzige Grund warum wir den Surfunterricht absagen, ist wenn Wetter- oder Seebedingungen die Sicherheit der Schüler:innen gefährden – beispielweise bei starkem Unwetter.

Der nächstgelegene Flughafen ist  der Flughafen Faro, der etwa 65 km von Praia da Rocha (Portimão) entfernt ist. Der Flughafen Lissabon liegt etwa eine zweieinhalb Stunden Autofahrt entfernt.

Es hängt immer von deinem Surf-Level ab, aber top Bedingungen, also Wellen an beiden Küsten, mildes Wetter und wenig Menschen im Wasser findest du meist vor und unmittelbar nach dem Sommer (also in den Monaten April, Mai, Oktober und November) vor.

Die Wellenperiode variiert stark mit den Jahreszeiten: November bis April, wo die portugiesische Küste von häufigen und starken Wellen getroffen wird, und von Mai bis Oktober, wo die Wellen eine große Konsistenz beibehalten, aber jetzt mit viel kleineren Dimensionen. Die besten Wellen findet man also im Allgemeinen an der Westküste im Sommer und an der Südküste im Herbst, Winter und Frühling.

Die Wassertemperatur erreicht an der Südküste zwischen Juni und September ein Maximum von 25 °C und bis zu 20 °C an der Westküste.  Aber auch im restlichen Jahr liegt die Wassertemperatur an der Südküste sehr selten unter 16 °C und an der Westküste unter 14 °C.

Von Mai bis September reicht leichte Kleidung und ggf. eine Jacke für die kühlsten Nächte. Im Oktober, November und April gibt es Tage, an denen eine wärmere Hose (z. B. Jeans) oder eine dickere Jacke erforderlich sind, insbesondere morgens und abends. Von Dezember bis März empfehlen wir warme Kleidung, die für eventuelles Regen- oder Windwetter geeignet ist.

Das Wetter an der Algarve ist etwa 9 Monate im Jahr mild. Weniger angenehme Außentemperaturen gibt es nur von Dezember bis Februar, wo die Höchsttemperatur trotzdem regelmäßig bei 17 °C bis 20 °C liegen. Im Frühjahr und Herbst liegt die Höchsttemperatur zwischen 25 °C und 30 °C, während im Sommer die höchsten Temperaturen 35 °C erreichen. Wir haben normalerweise 300 Sonnentage im Jahr – 3036 Sonnenstunden!

Ja, natürlich. Viele unserer Kund:innen kümmern sich selbstständig um ihre Unterkunft und buchen nur ihre Surfkurse bei uns. Dennoch empfehlen wir dir, dich bei unseren Unterkunftspartner:innen nach eventuellem Sonderangebot zu erkundigen, die sie unseren Kunden anbieten können.

Änderungen deiner Buchung können wir nur auf schriftliche Anfrage per E-Mail und je nach vorhandener Verfügbarkeit garantieren.

Wenn Du im Voraus buchst (einen Monat vorher), können erstmal 50% des Gesamtbetrags bezahlt werden. Die restlichen 50% müssen bis zu 48 Stunden vor der Aktivität online bezahlt werden. Alternativ kann die zweite Hälfte am Tag des Unterrichts in bar der Surfschule erfolgen.

Um die genauen Wunschtermine zu für Surfpakete gewährleisten empfehlen wir im Sommer mindestens einem Monat im Voraus und im Winter eine Woche im Voraus zu buchen.
Für einzelne Surfstunden ist es einfacher die Verfügbarkeit eines Platzes zu garantieren. Wir empfehlen jedoch, die Anzahl der freien Plätze auf unserer Online-Buchungsplattform im Auge zu behalten – diese werden ständig aktualisiert.

If you book a single surfing day, instead of a surfing pack you can surf in any day that fits best in your vacation schedule.

The average age of our participants is approximately between 25 and 35 years old, but we have successfully taught people with ages ranging from 6 – 70 years. Future Surf School participants come from all over the world and almost half our students are women.

Non surfers are welcome but will have to save the seat at our surf van by paying a lift. At the beach the non surfer can use his/her time freely till the agreed returning time takes place.

Motivation, being confortable in the ocean and being physically prepared will for sure help a lot your learning process. The students should know how to swim and we would appreciate that you inform us about any health restrictions that you may have.

If you never surfed before, you will be about able to paddle for middle size mellow waves, stand up in the right moment, in safety and finish the wave with the feet in the right position still on the top of the board (Longboard or Malibu). Afterwards, and depending on your progression, you will be able to surf down the wave learn a lot about safety rules, wind, waves, tides, priority rules, etiquette, surf gear, etc.

It depends according to the different spots, but the maximum it takes is one hour, and if south coast is working it will take no time at all.

It depends on the time of year, which greatly affects where the experience will take place. So, for example, in the summer a 3-hour surf lesson will imply an experience of about 6 hours in total, accounting for the time that will be spent traveling to and from the most suitable surf beach on the west coast, and the surf lesson itself.

For the transport of our students we have the surf vans that every day take the students to, and from the surf spot. We will pick you up from the hotels if they are close to our city area or if they surf with us through the “Surf Package”. We can also get our students further away from our Surf School but we might charge a small fee according to the distance.

We teach in the best surfing place of each day, which changes according to winds, tides, swell size and direction, sandbar, and students’ level. We teach our classes in the south and west coast of the Algarve, we usually go to 10 main spots ( 8 of them inside a wild and preserved National Park area, where the surfing schools require a special license to be able to teach ) but once in a while we go and check out some different surfing spots that are used only by experts surfers.

Yes, every Surf Lesson already includes all the equipment: the leash, the board and the wetsuit.

The courses are aimed at two specific target groups: One is for people who have never had a surf lesson or have only had short surfing experience – beginners level, and the other for intermediate level surfers who already have basic surfing skills and are looking to improve their paddling out skills, choosing/catching waves themselves and develop the basic manoeuvres such as trimming, cut-back, floaters.

For the last two decades of experience, we can say that about 80% of the people who come to the surf lessons are in the beginner level, while the remaining 20% are in the intermediate level.

Not that much, but we are talking about some quality surf breaks and some stunning spots, so it becomes quite famous, especially in July and August when many people are on holiday from school and work. They get motivated by the sun and warm temperatures to have a surf day or surf holiday. Anyway, as a beginner you will find plenty of room to have a great time on our surf areas of around 50 metres long!!! If not, and even in summer peak, if you avoid the morning and afternoon rush hours, you’ll find plenty of waves breaking without anyone surfing them!

On the west coast of the Algarve there are more than 10 great surf spots that work all year round. On the south coast there are more than 150 km where surfing can easily be found between October and May. There is no real big city in the Algarve, especially on the west coast, so the crowds are not hard to avoid.

You can wear a 3/2 mm wetsuit all year round, but in August and September some days you can surf in a short-sleeved wetsuit or even in shorts. From December to March you might need a 4/3 mm and booties (if you usually get really cold in the water).

If you wish to cancel your booking more than one month before the first surf lesson, after payment has already been made (in part or in full), we will refund 90% of the total amount paid to date. If the cancellation is between three and one week before the first surf lesson, we will refund 50% of the total amount paid. If the cancellation is requested less than one week before the first surf lesson, we unfortunately cannot refund any amount.

As praias são escolhidas em função das condições do mar o que varia bastante em diferentes épocas do ano sendo o tempo máximo de uma hora ou de 2 minutos se a costa sul estiver a “funcionar”.

Uma semana de Surf com aulas diárias irá proporcionar com certeza uma grande evolução no surfista aprendiz (especialmente no iniciante total) ainda assim factores externos ao surfista e treinador como as condições naturais influem grandemente no quanto se evolui… ao contrário do futebol ou basket, etc em que o campo está sempre pouco ou nada inalterado, no surf nunca há 2 dias iguais, nunca o nosso campo de treinos está exactamente igual a qualquer outro dia… o que apesar de muitas vezes tornar mais vagarosa a evolução do surfista, é também aquilo que faz do Surf um desporto muito especial, e torna alguns dias em que todas as variáveis batem certo em dias inesquecíveis!
Numa semana com razoáveis condições de ondas, um iniciante com alguma condição física, irá com certeza colocar-se em pé, apanhar ondas já rebentadas e por rebentar sozinho, cortar a onda “no verde” e fluir na parede da onda gerando velocidade.

Poucos são os pré-requisitos para se poder frequentar um curso de surf, ainda assim saber nadar minimamente, estar relativamente confortável no oceano, estar motivado e fisicamente apto, saudável.

Acompanhantes não surfistas podem acompanhar um cliente surfista pagando o valor de uma boleia, garantindo o lugar na carrinha do surf, sendo que depois na praia onde a aula tem lugar o acompanhante tem todo o dia livre para despender o seu tempo como considerar melhor.

Talvez a idade média dos nossos alunos seja entre os 25 e 35 anos, pois temos vários jovens em formação desportiva continuamente com idade compreendida entre os 6 e os 18 anos e temos também vários adultos e jovens famílias com cerca de 30 a 50 anos de idade.

A Future Eco Surf School dá aulas de Surf todos os dias do ano excepto no dia de Natal e dia de Ano novo, assim também os nossos alunos poderão ter aulas todos os dias.

Depende da época do ano, que condiciona bastante o local onde a experiência terá lugar. Assim, por exemplo no Verāo uma aula de surf de 3 horas implicará uma experiência de cerca de 6 horas no total, tempo esse destinado à deslocação ida e volta até à praia de surf mais apropriada na costa oeste, à aula de surf propriamente dita e a todo o tempo referente à logística preparatória do material de surf.

Para o transporte dos nossos alunos temos carrinhas de surf que todos os dias os levam para o local de surf (ida e volta). Se o alojamento for perto da nossa zona ou se surfarem com o “Pacote de Surf” podemos ir buscá-los ao alojamento. Para locais mais afastados da nossa Escola de Surf, também podemos providenciar transporte, mas podemos cobrar uma pequena taxa em função da distância.

As nossas aulas são escolhidas no surf-spot que em cada dia específico apresente as melhores condições para o surf, o que varia de acordo com os ventos, marés, tamanho e direção do swell, bancos de areia e nível técnico dos alunos. As nossas aulas têm lugar na costa sul e oeste do Algarve, normalmente vamos mais frequentemente a 5 praias principais (muitas delas dentro da área selvagem e protegida do Parque Natural do Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina, onde as escolas de surf precisam de uma licença especial para puderem ensinar). Mas de vez em quando optamos por surf spots alternativos que só servem para surfistas mais autónomos e com nível mais elevado.

Sim, no preço de cada aula já está incluído todo o material: o leash, a prancha e o fato de surf.

Estamos localizados na Marina de Portimão, na Praia da Rocha em Portimão. Poderás chegar até nós de carro, comboio, autocarro, táxi, uber ou melhor ainda a pé ou de bicileta reduzindo a tua pegada ambiental. Se digitares Future Eco Surf School no Google Maps serás facilmente direcionado até à nossa escola de surf.

Nós temos dois cursos específicos:

Nível básico (Iniciação) – pessoas que nunca tiveram uma aula de surf ou que até agora apenas tiveram uma curta experiência de surf.

Nível intermédio (Aperfeiçoamento) – surfistas que já têm conhecimento básico do surf e procuram melhorar as suas capacidades de remar, escolher/apanhar ondas por si próprios e desenvolver manobras básicas tais como trimming, bottom turn, cut-back, floater.

Com a nossa experiência de 22 anos, podemos dizer-vos que cerca de 80% das pessoas que entram nos cursos de surf estão no nível de iniciação enquanto os outros 20% estão no nível intermédio.

Não como pacote de aulas mas sim  num regime de mensalidade e treinos regulares periódicos desenvolvemos também o ensino de nível avançado de pré- competição e competição.

Se fores um principiante estarás numa área de surf exclusiva da escola de surf com cerca de 50 metros de largura, onde terás bastante espaço para te divertires!!!

Se tiveres um nível mais avançado aconselhamos a evitares a epoca turística de Junho a Outubro (especialmente Julho e Agosto) pois terás muito mais opções de ondas em ambas as costas e muito menos surfistas na água.

Em qualquer dos casos se estiveres disponível para acordar cedo ou sair de noite da praia então irás ainda ter muitas oportunidades de seres feliz só com mais alguns surfistas em redor.

Podes ter um fato de surf com espessura de 3/2 mm durante todo o ano, mas em agosto e setembro pode surfar alguns dias com um fato de surf de manga curta ou mesmo em calções. No período de dezembro a março poderás precisar de um 4/3 mm e talvez até botas se és pouco resistente ao frio.

Se depois do pagamento já ter sido realizado (parcial ou totalmente) quiseres cancelar a tua reserva com uma antecedência de mais de um mês da primeira aula de Surf, então procederemos ao reembolso de 90% do valor total pago até então; se o cancelamento distar entre três a uma semana da primeira aula de Surf, então reembolsaremos 50% do valor total pago; se o cancelamento for solicitado a menos de uma semana da primeira aula de Surf, lamentamos mas não poderemos de modo algum reembolsar qualquer valor.

Só podemos garantir quaisquer alterações nas reservas mediante um pedido escrito via email e dependendo da disponibilidade existente.

Se reservar com antecedência (um mês antes), pode pagar apenas 50% do montante total. Os restantes 50% podem ser pagos online até 48 horas antes da actividade ou na escola de surf em numerário no próprio dia da aula.

Para pacotes de aulas de surf recomendamos reservar, de forma a garantir as datas exactas desejadas,  com pelos menos 1 mês de antecedência no Verão ou uma semana no Inverno.

Costumamos dizer que ficaremos molhados no mar de qualquer maneira por isso não faz diferenças e está a chover ou não! Algumas das melhores ondas vêm quando o tempo aparentemente não está muito bom para ir à praia mas isso é para apanhares sol pois para surfar pode estar perfeito atendendo a que o que mais interessa é a ondulação, o vento e a maré!  O único motivo pelo qual cancelaremos as aulas de surf é se as condições atmosféricas ou do mar colocarem em perigo a segurança dos alunos.

O aeroporto mais próximo está localizado na cidade de  Faro e dista cerca de 65 km da Praia da Rocha (Portimão). O aeroporto de Lisboa fica a cerca de 2h30min de carro pela autoestrada.

Depende sempre do nível do surfista, mas com certeza que o mais apetecível, que será ondas em ambas as costas, tempo ameno e pouco crowd, tem muito mais probabilidade de acontecer antes e imediatamente a seguir ao verão ou seja os meses de abril, maio, outubro e novembro.

O período de ondas varia grandemente entre duas épocas do ano: Novembro a Abril onde a costa portuguesa é atingida por frequentes e fortes ondulações e de Maio a Outubro onde as ondulações mantêm grande consistência mas agora com dimensões bem menores. Assim, encontram-se geralmente as melhores ondas na Costa Oeste no caso do Verão e na Costa Sul no Outono, Inverno e Primavera.

A temperatura da água pode atingir um máximo de 25º na costa sul e até 20º na costa oeste entre Junho a Outubro, sendo que a temperatura mínima muito raramente é inferior a 16º na costa sul e a 14º na costa oeste.

De Maio a Setembro roupa leve e curta e uma blusa para as noites mais frescas será suficiente, sendo que Outubro, Novembro e Abril têm dias que exigem umas calças mais quentinhas (p.e. calças de ganga) ou um casaco mais grosso especialmente para as manhãs e noites, de Dezembro a Março aconselha-se roupa quente e apropriada a um tempo que pode ser chuvoso ou ventoso.

O tempo no Algarve é ameno cerca de 9 meses por ano registando temperaturas exteriores menos agradáveis somente de dezembro a fevereiro, onde ainda assim a temperatura máxima regularmente ronda os 17º a 20º. Na Primavera e Outono a temperatura máxima ronda os 25º a 30º enquanto que no Verão as temperaturas mais elevadas atingem os 35º de máxima. Normalmente temos 300 dias de sol por ano, 3036 horas de sol.

Due to the nature of this sport, there may have to be changes to the planned surf courses. In case of bad weather or dangerous conditions for surf practicing, the organizer can offer a suitable alternative program. However, these kinds of situations very rarely happen, and if so they will probably take place between January and February… but even then it´s very unusual cause storm in the west coast for example means really nice waves and wind at many surf spots at the south coast, so don´t worry about this…

The closest airport is Faro, which is about 65 km from Praia da Rocha (Portimão). Lisbon airport is about two and a half hours by car on the motorway.

You can surf two distinct coast lines that work with different swell sizes and directions, as well as predominant winds, so it really depends on your skills and goals. For instance, for small to medium size waves and sunny days you can come anytime between April and October; for all size of waves but not as warm or crowded, the rest of the year is just perfect!

We have waves all year round – no doubt about it – so a complete flat surfing day will be quite difficult to happen, especially because we have two coast lines that receive different swell directions, which means that in one or another the waves will be there for you! Even knowing this, in July/August the waves are usually small (2 – 3 feet high) but it’s really consistent. The rest of the year you have lots of waves on both coasts, which gives you much more to choose from… small to big and from crowded to just by yourself!
In the period of December to February big winter swells are quite usual, so the west coast isn’t usually a good choice. But lots of surfing spots on the south coast get really classic and consistent!

The lowest temperature goes from 14ºC (57,2ºF) on the West Coast and 16ºC (60,8ºF) on the South Coast in winter to maximum temperatures in Summer of 20ºC (68ºF) on the West Coast and 24ºC (75,2ºF) on the South Coast.

Around summer all you need is a pair of trunks or a bikini, sunglasses, lots of sun screen, beach towel, sandals, cap, light clothes and a sweater just in case for any windy afternoon/evenings. If you come on Spring or Autumn a pair of jeans is quite enough for the mornings and evenings, during the day a t-shirt will be perfect. Hot clothes or rainy clothes will be just for the coldest days of the December – March period.

The weather in the Algarve is mild for about 9 months of the year, with less pleasant outdoor temperatures only from December to February, when the minimum temperature never goes below  7ºC (44,6ºF) on the coldest winter nights and maximum temperature is regularly around 14°C (57,2ºF), with some rain that doesn’t last for long. In Spring and Fall we have really nice temperatures and lots of sunny days. In summer the temperature usually go from  20ºC (68ºF) to 35 (95ºF) degrees. The Algarve is well known for having more then 300 sunny days a year.

Mind that even in the Algarve, temperature can change considerably in short distances, for instance from where we are located – Praia da Rocha/Portimão in the South Coast of the Algarve to the Cape of Sagres (where the West Atlantic Coast starts) the average temperature is usually 5ºC (41ºF) lower and it’s only 40 km away, due to the ocean breeze.
